How Often Should I Get A Massage?

This is the most popular and effective frequency amongst our clients at Solaris Massage.  



Once a month is a great orbit for staying on top of a regular relaxation routine.  This is the most standard answer, but is by no means the only way to schedule therapeutic massage.  Having a REGULAR habit definitely helps you get the most out of the massages you schedule.  It also allows your massage therapist to get to know how to assist your body in relaxing and optimizing.  If your regular timing is 4 times a year, or even twice a year, it really does help for your body to KNOW that there is a vacation on the horizon.  And this means that the sessions are more progressive, achieving modest improvements in lowering stress and increasing mobility as time goes by.  



Ways to stay on schedule your monthly massage:

  • Book a recurring appointment.  Set the same time aside each month for your massage.  If the first Friday at 4 works for you, set it and forget it.  Scheduling this way with your massage therapist works well when you have a predictable schedule, and for those who can plan well in advance.

  • Sign up for a membership plan.  With this option, you know that massage is part of your monthly budget, and you will be charged a consistent amount on a recurring monthly basis.  It’s still your responsibility to book your massages, so what works well for our clients is either setting a reminder to book their appointment, or booking their NEXT appointment each time they get a massage.  Our membership plan is called Fitness Fiber, and it’s also our best value.  We LOVE seeing clients regularly, and these members really notice the benefits. This option works well for people who can regularly book every single month.

  • Purchase a package deal.  If you can buy in a bundle and save, and you’ve found a shop that does quality massage work, why not make that commitment.  Many massage shops offer package deals, and you typically save by paying upfront.  This option has more flexibility on how often you book, and is a better fit for those who aren’t sure they will be able to get a massage EVERY month.  At Solaris Massage we offer a Six Pack Savings Bundle for both our 60 Minute and 90 Minute Massages.  You may book when you wish, and if you want to share, you can even let a friend benefit from your bundle.  

  • Use your FSA or HSA to pay for ANY of the above options (subject to the specifics of your FSA or HSA, read more here) If you can, use your tax free account to pay for massage therapy services.  All the therapists at Solaris Massage are licensed by the State of Missouri, and many HSA accounts can be used for this type of health expense.

  • Set a reminder to book on your calendar.  Whether you use a paper planner or Google Calendar, set a recurring reminder to book a massage.  Many of us have the kind of schedule which makes it hard to actually BOOK an appointment too far in advance.  Trust us, WE UNDERSTAND THAT! If you still want to get a massage on a regular basis, but can’t commit ahead of time, wait for your monthly reminder to pop up, and then work us into your schedule.  Solaris has availability evenings and weekends and appointments can be booked same day, as soon as 90 minutes from now as well as 6-8 weeks into the future.  To read more on how to Book Like a PRO, read this!



However you decide to stay on top of your massage routine, you will find that keeping to a regular schedule leads to the best results.  I have always noticed that one of the best benefits of massage is AWARENESS.  Clients often report that during the massage they notice something new about where their body is holding tension or pain.  While massage is a wonderful 60 or 90 minute guided relaxation, it is really what you do for yourself IN BETWEEN massage appointments that will have the most impact on improving your wellness.  The change in habits that are informed by the things you notice DURING your massage are the greater gift.  By prioritizing this sort of relaxing check-in, you can build on the information you receive each time.
